The DA40 NG pairs a composite airframe with an Austro AE300 diesel engine, so it runs on jet-A rather than avgas and is controlled by a single power lever through FADEC. Starting, mixture and prop management aren't a workload item, which leaves more capacity for flying the aeroplane well.

The Garmin G1000 suite gives a large primary flight display, moving map, terrain and traffic awareness, and the GFC700 autopilot flies coupled approaches accurately. It's an excellent platform for IMC/IR(R) and IR currency, and a comfy place to be on longer trips.

There are four seats, around 410 kg of useful payload and 900+ nautical miles of range. Life jackets and a life raft are available to members for over-water flights.
